OVERVIEW

You heard you can make money by making a video-game for your phone, but you do not know how to start? Well, this workshop is perfect for you! You will learn the basic principles of video-game design, and take part in a workshop consisting of a step by step guide for creating a simple 2D video-game, with lots of hands-on activities, under the guidance of an expert of game development: Maurizio Cerrato, Technical Director of Playerthree LTD, a videogame company.

The workshop is an initiative of Drama Läb, a joint laboratory of two faculties of UnibZ: Computer Science and Design & Art.

DAILY SCHEDULE AND SLIDES

The workshop takes place at the UniBZ Main Building according to the following schedule.

Mission 1 – 1 September, 10:30 to 12:30 – E221 Lecture room, Ser-E
Introduction to videogame design, who is involved, what the target audience is, what tools you need.

What is a videogame loop? Videogame code structure as a realtime system. Input handling, difference between mobile game input types and home entertainment input type. How to draw a sprite on screen that reacts to user input.

Mission 3 – 3 September, 10:30 to 12:30 – E431 Computer room, Ser-E
State machine principles and concepts, collision detection and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in game design. How to create game entities that collide with each other with basic AI.

Game audio. Put in practice the skills learnt in the previous missions and complete your mobile game!

REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION

As seats are limited from Mission 2 onwards, online registration was recommended. Online registration closed on August 29th 2014. See the list of the people registered by August 29th 2014.

In case you wish to join in and did not register by August 29th, do not worry, there are still a few available seats. Welcome aboard on September 1st at 10:30 in E221!
